5 top tips for writing English correspondence  

1) Use correct grammar 

Make sure to check your written correspondence for grammar mistakes. Grammar errors can distract from your message and give you an unprofessional appearance.


2) Follow the proper format

Use the proper format, such as cover letter, business letter and thank-you letter. Include the date, the recipient's name and address and any other relevant information that may be required.


3) Use vocabulary appropriate for the situation.

Use informal language and formal language for various contexts in everyday life.


4) Know your reader

It’s important when writing English correspondence. Depending on the reader you are writing to, choose the right language and tone.

 

5) Be clear and succinct.

Your message must be delivered in a clear and straightforward way. To make your message understandable, use simple language and clear phrase construction.

Grammar

 A common way to structure a postcard is to start by saying about what’s going on your holiday(past continuous, present simple). Next is to say what you have been doing since you arrived (past simple, present perfect, present perfect continuous). Last thing is to finish by mentioning your plans for the next couple of days.


Vocabulary

obligation(n.) ภาระหน้าที่

utility room(n.) ห้องเอนกประสงค์


2. How to exchange information through letters/ emails


Grammar

The past perfect tense 

We use the past perfect tense to talk about an event that happened before another event in the past 

For example :  I had wanted a new bicycle for ages!  (She wanted a bicycle for a long time and then someone gave her one.)


Vocabulary

 Gratitude (n.) การแสดงความขอบคุณ

Admiration (n.) ชื่นชม


3.How to write formally for complaint and job-hunting


Grammar
Reported Speech (Indirect speech) is useful when complaining because complaint involve things that were said or promised to. Use a tense which is further back in the past (backshift)

For example:

I was told by your manager that I could have refund.


Vocabulary

Qualification (n.)  คุณสมบัติ 

Relevant (adj.) ที่เกี่ยวข้อง


4. How to write online for a reading public


Grammar

Present simple tense indicates an action which happens in the present, unchanging situations, general truths, scientific facts and frequently occurring events. 

Example : The hotel is ideally located for sightseeing around Boston.  


Vocabulary

Spectacular (adj.) งดงาม, ประทับใจ

Spacious (adj.) กว้างขวาง

Then, you should tell them what you want how the problem to be solve is.

And close with a thank you letter that is signed with your name (no sign-off). There are many reactions that can be expressed, such as gratitude,  pleasure, surprise, and admiration.

    When it would be too difficult a situation or time to make a phone call you can use personal messages or “text” and also call SMS(Short Message Service) to write to people. This way you can send messages to make good contact with someone when you do not need a quick reply! And do not need to use a formal language when you write to your friend. To save time and effort when texting, We often shorten words, using acronyms abbreviations or keyboard characters to show what we mean.
